Saint Laurent Paris Fashion Week Spring Summer 2016:"Glastonbury"
Slimane designed his set as a spinning robotic cube which lit up with strip lighting dimming in and out, the cube divided diagonally into two and the girls – including the return of Agyness Deyn – emerged looking like they had just returned from 12-rounds with Glastonbury. Every look stomped along in a pair of Wellington boots, some plain, others studded or with floral embroidery. Prior to Glastonbury though, they might have stopped off at a favourite vintage store, or perhaps simply had a successful rummage in the back of their dad’s wardrobe, pulling out items such as a very plain oversize denim jacket that looked like it had seen better days, and a faded leather bomber; which appeared diseased with faded patches; the sort that looked more than worn, but positively done in. But that’s the appeal here.
If not Wellingtons they sported Nineties-style “trashy” strappy gold sandals, the sort that don’t support your feet very well and you can’t help but slide out of them here and there, toes clawed searching for some kind of grippage. Certainly, they didn’t aid the gait. Heads were topped with diamante tiaras, and not for the first time, they’ve popped up in Slimane’s music photography before now. Upon exit this evening, naysayers were having none of it, as several commented: “Same old; same old...” But this doesn't matter to the Saint Laurent girl, and really, that’s all that counts.
