New York, NY – Ulla Johnson debuted her Autumn/Winter 2016 Collection on Thursday, February 11 at Industria Studios.
For fall 2016 Ulla Johnson introduces a fin de sieĚcle story of opulent textures and lavish patterns, gilded nymphs framed in a cabinet of curiosities. Wild birds soar against verdant forests in a vision of art nouveau seen through the prism of sixties London and nineties Americana. Florals and ornate details evoke the fantastical works of Gustave Moreau with a distinctly rock and roll extravagance.
A maximalist silhouette of ornate handspun knits and frilled cashmere in rich jewel tones is layered over mixed prints, intricate swirling lace and velvet. Embellishments and patterns drawn from far afield evoke Afghan wedding coats, Argentine horsemen and Rajasthani ikats unified through rich chromatic juxtapositions. Frothy ruffles and billowing silks dance between tuxedo silks and lingerie evoking a freer time and a decadent spirit.
