London Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2016-17: Topshop Unique
Topshop, as always, delivered a resolutely modern take on British style. Our collective fashion heritage – refined country classics, fierce punk nuances, Eighties club kids, or hazy grunge references - continue to colour what Britain’s fashion-obsessed youth will be wearing next, but this season it was impossible to ignore the influence of the American Kardashian brood upon the clothes. Model Grace Hartzel opened the show wearing translucent drawstring long johns and a tough aviator shearling, cuddled tight at the waist, calling to mind Kendall’s post-gym uniform of a utility jacket and second-skin leggings. The attitude was, however, resolutely British. Rather than a pristine contoured beauty look – Hartzel sported 'last night's make up’ - heavy sooty liner and a bold, cyclamen lip. As Finch put it, the show was “about the highs and lows of British style.” American pinups included.
